Our Mission Statement
We take pride in developing both on-ice hockey skills and off-ice life skills through our New Mentorship Program which emphasizes leadership, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, while being active members of communities in which we live, work and learn.
Our Mentorship Program
Designed to enhance and guide young minds and nurture them to become effective leaders in sport, academics and their careers. Our "Mentor's" will consist of (U18 Midget to U15 Bantam) aged girls and our "Mentee's" will be the younger IceCats.
Mentorship allows for the use of learning opportunities that come up in sports to help develop better people. Mentor benefits include a greater feeling of connection to the organization, increased self-esteem, increased empathy, improved conflict resolution skills and strong organizational skills. Mentee benefits include greater achievement, decreased behavioural problems, learning to accept feedback, improved listening skills and social interaction.
The Mentor will not manage but they will be a friend, supporter, advisor, role model and listener. They will not be a parent, superhero or solution to every problem but they will model positive behaviour , focus on the positives, enhance self-confidence and offer words of encouragement. Mentee's will identify skills and competencies they wish to gain from the Mentor and take initiative to ask for help to attain their goals.
The Mentee will also develop a growth mindset and become a strong team player. Both parties will be trained, goals for each will be identified, tracked and assessed. Celebrating achievement and self reflection for both the Mentor and Mentee will acknowledge successful commitments each has made.
